4/18/2005 - In Our Own Image “In Our Own Image: Treasure African American Traditions, Journeys, and Icons (Running Press, 2002)” marks a renewed focus on Karen Pugh’s true passions – reflecting positive images of African American communities through art photography, and personal stories.
Among the over 350 images in the book are her own photographs, paintings, and memorabilia; as well as those of friends and family. It was important for the authors to do a book rich in imagery.
Says Pugh: “It occurred to me many years ago that the traditions of the strong Black communities, which had nurtured us all for generations, had gone unheralded. I wanted to give thanks by creating an elegant scrapbook of the African American communities across the country which I’ve come to know”.
